I was having a chat with father time the other day and it became quite apparent that I seem to have amassed way too much stuff and a lot of it was gathering dust.
Apart from all those things set aside for a rainy day there is a rather large collection of guitars, bicycles and other surplus hobby-related items.
So, in this gallery you’ll find a rather startling quantity of items that, despite much protestation, I’ve decided are in the way of me fulfilling a future, minimalist lifestyle.

Pinnacle Dolomite 6 Road Bike L Shimano 105 1,759 km
K-edge out front Garmin mount. Spare bottom bracket.
Rather tidy condition.
£400

Unknown steel-frame currently set up as single speed shopping bike.
Badged as Holdsworth.
Was a L’Eroica project I never finished.
Suit 6’ plus as you can tell by the saddle. (It’s actually too large for me)
Nice retro Shimano components.
Collectors quality brake levers (£40) 105 calipers (£30) rear mech (£25) and Golden Arrow shifters (£40)
£150 complete.

PRS DGT 2012 10 top
They call it charcoal, I call it “pants left in wash.”
I’m slowly reducing my DGT collection and this is the last on the chopping block.
This is what I call my ‘spare’ DGT. It goes to rehearsal, usually goes to gigs but rarely gets played. It’s there in case of a broken string.
It’s not a case queen but it’s in lovely condition.
Nice top, no dings but a little shrinkage as you’d expect.
The back has some belt rash and worming. Nothing nasty through the finish. I’ve tried to capture it in the photos but inadvertently captured myself in all my slobby glory.
Hopefully it’s clear enough to paint the picture.
PRS hard case, tags etc.

Fender VG Stratocaster 2007
Owned from new.
Complete with tags, candy and hard case.
Lightly gigged with light playing wear. Black with maple fingerboard.
Shortened trem arm.
Versatile, unusual instrument, very handy for gigging types.
When the battery dies it becomes an American Standard Strat.
£1200

Gibson Explorer 1976
I bought this guitar, with my first ever bank loan from my first proper job, in 1981 from Curly Music in Liverpool. I played my first public gig with it, kept it through good times and bad and always intended to take it with me to the afterlife.
The thing is, it never gets played, hangs on the wall and gets covered in dust.
I’ve priced it high as I’m rather unsure of its value, particularly with the mods listed below, as in some ways it’s priceless but I’ll let the market decide.
As I’ve owned it and played it for so long it’s been through a few changes.
There’s the SG style strap button that I installed on the rear of the body when straplocks hadn’t been invented and accidents were common.
When I bought it, the original tar-backs had been replaced with a DiMarzio PAF and a Super Distortion. These have since been replaced with a pair of burstbuckers. I don’t have the original tar-backs but £300 will find you a set.
The jack socket has been replaced a few times and the surround once.
The pots are original.
The original nut has been re-installed. The asymmetric pull of the strings often displaced the original Gibson glue.
There is a poorly routed area beneath the pickguard where the original owner installed a booster(!) circuit but it’s completely hidden.
The booster circuit included adding a mini-switch to the pickguard.
The current white, laminated pickguard is therefore a replacement for the original solid white one.
There is also a black pickguard that came from Tim Gentle music in the 80’s
There’s plenty of player wear to the plating but no breaks or repairs.
There are many dings and nicks but she’s a wonderful example of a used, but cherished, ’76 guitar.
Frets are excellent, very flat and the actions is low.
Neck profile is classic ’76 Explorer baseball bat style.
Comes with the original, purple-lined slightly tatty case.
Got to be £5000 hasn’t it?
PRS DGT Relic
Owned from new.
1 of 5 PRS guitars commissioned by Peach Guitars for their 5th anniversary.
Hand aged by Paul Miles in the Private Stock line at PRS and based on possibly the best PRS ever, the fabulous DGT in all its nitro-cellulose glory.
The Dave Grissom Trem needs no introduction but a DGT factory Relic is another thing altogether.
Rumour has it that that the Peach 5 finally nailed the coffin shut on PRS’s ventures into artificial ageing.
This guitar is guaranteed to light up any PRS forum debate, usually ending in death frets (ho ho) or, at the very least, doubts over one’s ancestry.
Part of my private collection, absolutely mint, yet quite battered.
Shouldn’t really sell it but it’s just not getting any use these days.
Happy to provide more photos or more information.
